New York Fashion Week was definitely a very eye-opening experience. Being able to enjoy every aspect of it, from the rush of it all, the sisterhood that’s built around it (yes, sisterhood!), to every event I got invited to was an experience I’ll never forget…
One of my favorite was the TRESemmé salón where I got my hair done by celebrity hairstylist Marco Peña, he’s a Colombian artist who has several years in the industry and is such a humble soul who’d never tell you he’s worked with Latino celebs like Thalía, Adamari López and a lot you see in prime time TV.
I was able to see things from a different perspective. I’ve always loved fashion but never considered myself a fashionista, a fashion expert, let alone a fashion blogger…. The respect I now have from fashion bloggers and influencers is inexplicable. Lucky enough I have awesome girlfriends who’ve been in the styling industry, like my Colombian bicoastal girl, Juanita Londoño, and a Venezuelan fashionista that takes over New York, Andreina Valderrama, and even a the most spiritual millennial mommy blogger, Verónica Zuluaga.
To be honest, I took this NYFW experience as an experiment. My curiosity about the fashion world in New York City went beyond what I saw in magazines, in fashion blogs, in designers that I’ve known about or even the craft that my own mother — who is a fashion designer herself— thought me.
Maybe I’ve always considered myself a jeans-and-T-shirt kinda gal and my beat as a journalist has always been anything but fashion. However, after this NYFW, I think I’ve found a new love.
