Oh boy! This week has been all about the power of Latinos making sure our voices are being heard. As much hype was created around our culture as Shakira’s and Jennifer López’s performance at the Super Bowl LIV was one of the most-watched of all time —and I’m not just saying that. I am certain that those few minutes on TV were some of the most inspiring a lot of us have seen in a long time. They truly lived the American Dream.
For two Latino women, who one day as little girls dreamed of singing on big stages, and last night they did it in one of the biggest sporting events in the world, I’m more than certain that Latinas do know how to make moves.
After reading all the headlines and reviews about the event, the criticism of the presentation for being “pornographic,” these two #latinas showed the world a good time and gave everyone a taste of the blood that runs through our veins. Backlash and criticism will always be there, but, they sure know how to dance it off! Grab your laptop, keep working and push through.
In honor of more Latinos being represented in mainstream media, I’d love to highlight Raúl Peñaranda’s story we saw this season on American Latino TV. This fashion designer of Colombian and Venezuelan roots tells his inspiring story of hard work and dedication to making his dreams become a reality in the highly competitive and ever-changing fashion industry.
It’s been a few months since we started the new season of American Latino TV. It’s been a dream come true for me. After being in Media for about eight years and the last four at People En Español, I felt like the time was right to jump to English TV, and what a better way than with a show that highlights Latinos representing their culture and doing great things in the United States. It’s double the fun!
