It’s been a long road of ups and downs, it’s been a learning curve and —not gonna lie— it’s been a challenge working with the family for many beautiful and crazy reasons, nonetheless, we have pushed through because we believe in the mission behind our company, Pinkafé. We want to lift you up, empower you, motivate you and create a community that inspires women to take action. This conviction is so strong in my heart that I decided to take a leap of faith, leave my job at People En Español and go full-on as an entrepreneur. It’s scary at first, but then you realize the joy that doing something for others brings you, you just GO! Of course, plan ahead for it and take the necessary steps before you make the big decision.

When you start a new project, there is much more that goes into it than just saying “this is my new baby.” It may start as a simple idea, a thought or a dream that keeps growing, —even when the moment you think it’s time to bring it to life is not the right one and you have to wait. You try once, you fail. You try twice, you fail again and the third one… hmmm, you try one more time until you get it going… This is what happened to us.

Pinkafé started as a way for my mother, my sister and me to unite our passions and our talents. It was an opportunity for us to finally work together. Something we had been wanting to do forever!

So it all started with an idea that my mother wanted to develop: having a mobile boutique. A business where she could visit women at their homes, have some coffee, have girl-time and pull some clothes out of her trunk to sell!  My mom is a fashion designer and the most creative lady out there. She graduated with a B.A. in Fashion Design in Colombia and then went on to have her own sewing shop. She made women’s lingerie and pajamas for kids! This was back in the 90s when she was living her designer dream.

Fast forward to 2012, after we had been living in the U.S. for 12 years —a time where she and my dad put their true passions aside to do other odd jobs to help sustain our family— she said: “I want to get back to working with clothing.” At that time, I was going to school for Journalism, my sister was a TV producer in Los Angeles, so we both said…”Let’s make a page online, like a blog! We’ll take pictures of the clothes and post them online (this was my mom’s job), we’ll build a website and write some articles for women (I assigned this to myself), and produce some videos and events (my sister’s expertise). Heck, even a TV show! BINGO! We had a company in one sitting. This was long before The Pinkafé Podcast was launched in 2019.

Little did we know the challenges we would face moving forward. So, after sitting together brainstorming for a few hours, we came up with the name “Pinkafé” Why? We are Colombians and every time we would get together it would be to have some coffee, plus, we wanted a company that celebrated those moments of community and catered to women so we thought of the color Pink… Pinkafé, TA-DAaaaa!

After a few tries, here we are now with a TV Show on LATV! Back to bring you incredible stories about women entrepreneurs and those who are moving the needle and pushing forward in their careers.

Catch the Pinkafé TV Show every Friday at 8 p.m. EST, 7:30 p.m. PST on LATV.
